Task 7 - Evaluation

27/05/16 - Updates

I have officially complete my final level and I am going to do some self reflection on the project, I will be going through and talk about what I did and any sort of issues I had and also what the people thought of my level so far and how I feel doing the project overall, going into the project I was pretty much doing mostly research at the start considering I had some ideas on what to do, I felt quite confident on what to do for my final major which was making a detailed 3d environment/level, the reason that I chose this was because I thought that creating environments and level are really interesting and would want to explore that path as you can see how most games look really well with the environments they make nowadays. I think that in future this skill would be really good to have and to show off as presentations.

When I started creating the assets all I did was watch tutorial videos all day and learn how to use the software, I wasn't really good at the start using blender but as weeks past I started to know and understand it quite more, I really put a lot of my own time learning new things like blender and I was really overwhelm when I was more comfortable using it. I would use this skill going forward into university and any other 3d asset software I would have a gist on making stuff. Once I got my level all together it felt really rewarding on the time and effort I've put on it and gives me motivation to continue going forward. The time management on this project was a good schedule that I thought about my time more considering to my other tasks that was given to me, I didn't really leave myself a lot of work to do, I was happy that I finished before the deadline. This key skill is good to have specially with my time management not as good, with this final task I manage to improve on that which felt really good, having that sense on accomplishing something which requires a lot of hard work.

I've also put many work into my production process on keeping things up-to-date on all of my work, each process I feel that it detailed and explained well on the steps I do for my level and each assets I make, There are also some assets that I made some mistakes on and not really put on my level due to it not looking good and not really suited my level quite well, but I mange to show my best work on the production process. I ran into some of few problems whilst doing this project which I had to be away before the easter break which I missed quite a lot my time management but I manage to problem solve that and caught up as soon as I got back, I had no problem putting my own time and effort to this, I did a lot of work from home which was better for me I had much more work done alone, creating more assets after assets then testing them on my level.

I think that I handled my time management quite well consider I've missed a few weeks when I was away, compared to the other units and task I struggled on deadline and catching up on work, I understand more and learned, also made it clear to myself that I would never give myself a lot of work to do, I mostly did work at home due to the project being a lot more easier running it on my own computer, at home and my own time I think I could focus more doing work at home which I could put several hours each day doing this project, I have done quite well I reckon with my time on this unit all I need to do now it some improvements on my explanation brief to explain stuff more detailed and better.

I am so happy that I stuck with my choice and what I wanted to do for this project usually I can't make my mind up on things and struggle on that, but I manage to stick and plan ideas for this type of project and with my original plan and creating a detailed modern swimming pool, I made some slight adjustments on the way once it came to me I thought that I need to have it on my level which I followed my thoughts and created it as an asset. Like creating a mini bar, which I never thought I'd do but able to finish and complete it, but overall I never really made any other changes apart from that, I am glad that I stuck to my stuff and got the work done in the end.

Overall I am so happy with the outcome I got from my work as I felt and feel overwhelm, I set my myself the task and what to do next and I created a path on what to do for my next step, which was to create my realistic 3d level to a really good standard, I have gathered some information from people and will be going over to answer the questionnaire that I gave out.

Having a day and night cycle & Ambient noises:

Quote: ''I think that having a day and night cycle would be really good for your level''

Quote: ''Having some wind noises on the background would feel like an outdoor swimming pool''

All of these ideas I had on my mind but I thought that focusing on making my assets detailed more and making them look good is my key on this unit. I never really thought on having that on my level but maybe on my next task on making a level I would definitely have that, specially having a day and night cycle would be really interesting to have, the only negative thing I'd say about that is having the difficulties to see my assets in the dark which I have to make the environment a lot more lighter.

Realistic Level?:

Quote: ''Yes, specially the assets that was made, I thought it was a fine job done''

Quote: ''The environment has a feel that I would want to go on vacation myself, specially with the effects added on the lighting''

I have gather results from my level being realistic and I thought that I have got some good response from other people, but from my point of view I could improve this even more, I would take my time more on making the assets. But with the overall results I got I felt very happy with myself.

Improvements:

Quote: ''You could improve on making assets like furniture instead of using the same one''

Quote: ''Improve using a wider range of assets, so having more stuff on your level''

These were all true but I know that mostly modern swimming pools have the same objects used, but adding more stuff which I could do but to be honest I could not think of any more at that point I wish I could add more stuff to my level I know it would look more better to other peoples perspective. I know that I mostly copied and pasted stuff but I thought that in my view that it would look quite well. I know I could improve on that, it's just I might not have enough time to do other stuff for my level, but if I had other people as a group working on my level things would be a different story, we would focus on working as a team, and my main job would be the asset making for the level, this would be an achievement made and improve other things on the level to a good standard.

Ratings for my level:

Quote: ''I would rate this an 8/10''

Quote: ''9/10, overall it was a really well made level''

Quote: ''8/10''

I was fairly happy with the rating I got for my level, I know that I could improve on stuff but overall I was pleased with the response that I got and what I have achieved.

Overall the people thought that my level was quite impressive and how I did well on making the assets for them, I know with the comments I had a some issues that I know I could improve and fix on, but if I had time I would do so. I am pleased with the results I got though and how I set myself this task to do on making realistic level environment. The feeling on doing a good job and being praised by it is a really good feeling like with my level, this is one of my best achievements so far going onto this course. This gives me a massive confident boost and motivation to do better and improve on what the people say. Being negative is always motivation for me which I know I could do better when doing this work, I know that it would help me in future specially focusing on university standard work. I may have rushed a few assets and texturing which may look quite awful on my level but I know improvement is key which I know what to do next time when it comes to the basis when improving my work.
